High-end Training on Maritime Education towards Greener Shipping held in Shanghai

Jointly hosted by IMLA, Shanghai Maritime University and Maritime Technology Cooperation Center in Asia, the High-end Training on Maritime Education towards Greener Shipping was held in Shanghai from September 22 to 24.


More than 20 professors and scholars from maritime academies alongside “the Belt and Road” participated in this training. The topics covered hot issues in the shipping industry including the application of new energy, energy efficiency management, market-based policy initiatives, and green shipping education.


Mr. Kitack Lim, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, delivered a speech titled Maritime Education for Zero Carbon Development in Shipping. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between maritime educational institutions and the industry, with suggestions that international organizations like IMLA should play a more significant role in providing vital manpower and technological support for the sustainable development of the shipping industry.


Dr. Alison Noble, Honorary Chair of IMLA, Professor Shi Xin, Honorary Secretary of IMLA addressed at the opening ceremony respectively. Professor Takeshi Nakazawa, Executive Director of the International Association of Maritime Universities delivered a keynote speech and analyzed key issues of green shipping and the responses.


The programme provided a platform to strengthen the collaboration with IMO and maritime academies, fostering the exchange of cutting-edge policies, regulations, and technologies in green shipping and contributing to the development of maritime education in the context of green shipping.
