2019 Maritime Instructors Training Course Held in Shanghai

Following last year's success, IMLA built on the momentum in 2019 to organize the Maritime Instructors Training Course taking advantage of sponsorship from the government of Shanghai and resources provided by Shanghai Maritime University.

On 11 July, the three-week Maritime Instructors Training Course was brought to a successful close in Shanghai. 20 maritime professors, lecturers and senior administrators from maritime education and training institutes from Cambodia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Egypt, Philippines, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey and Ukraine benefited from the Training Course.

The Course covered a wide range of topics related to maritime education and training in the context of new maritime technologies and updated international regulations that may impact MET. It was primarily intended for maritime lecturers to develop good understanding of latest developments on maritime education including the IMO model courses, and exchange and share their teaching and managerial experience.

IMLA Honorary Chair Prof. Yongxing, IMLA Committee Member and IAMU Executive Director Prof. Takeshi Nakazawa, IMLA Committee Member Mr. Michael Amon, and Vice Chair of IMLA-IMEC Ms. Alison Noble, joined the course and contributed their respective expertise. Senior managers from authority and industry were also invited to lead talks at the Course.

The Training Course had the pleasure of the presence of Mr. Chris Trelawny, Chief, Sub-Division for Maritime Development, Technical Cooperation Division of the International Maritime Organization, who attended the closing and presented participants with certificates.
