Condolence message in memory of Prof. Stephen J. Cross

It is with deep regret and sadness IMLA had learnt of the passing of Prof. Stephen J. Cross, our dear colleague and long-beloved friend.

The deep connection between Prof. Stephen and IMLA comes with the common commitment to maritime education and training. He was an active member of IMLA and the Honorary Treasurer for almost 10 years, from 2012-2021. He was the conference Chair of IMLA 20, held in the Netherlands in 2012. He was also a prolific researcher and scholar on the subject of maritime education and training.

The current IMLA chair describes Stephen as “a great character, a driving force at Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz, a well-known figure in the maritime community and a major contributor to IMLA, specifically in his role as former Honorary Treasurer.”

We remember and mourn him for his eminent work at IMLA and in the global MET community. His legacy will remain an inspiration for all of us. He will live on in our hearts and minds.
