Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of World Maritime University Visited Shanghai Maritime University

On August 21, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Honorary Chair of IMLA and Chairman of Board of Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) and Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU received Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, newly-elected President of World Maritime University (WMU), and Prof. Ma Shuo, Vice-President of WMU.

 

Prof. Jin Yongxing expressed his warm welcome to President Doumbia-Henry for her first visit to SMU after the appointment. Then, Prof. Jin showed that WMU has maintained a close cooperative relationship with SMU for the past 20 years. The MSc Project in International Transport and Logistics, co-held by WMU and SMU, has been running successfully for 12 years and students joining in its tenth project will soon graduate. Finally, Prof. Jin hoped that both parties could further cooperation to push the development in maritime education and shipping industry.

 

Prof. Huang Youfang gave the guests a brief introduction of SMU’s revolutionary history, its running features and its achievement in education, scientific research, international cooperation and so on. Prof. Huang highlighted that he was grateful to WMU for its contribution in helping strengthen SMU’s teaching staff construction. In addition, Prof. Huang said SMU is carrying on a comprehensive educational reform to deepen its substantial construction. Therefore, he wished that both parties could make full use of the strong points and enrich cooperative contents,in order to take a further step of the development between WMU and SMU.

 

President Doumbia-Henry first extended her thanks to SMU for its long-term support for WMU. Then she showed that SMU is an important partner of WMU and she was impressed by SMU’s beautiful campus and advanced teaching facilities. And she felt happy for the achievement gained by SMU. Finally, she expressed her hope that both SUM and WMU could strengthen cooperation and seek mutual development.

 

The delegation of President Doumbia-Henry gave speeches to some of the post-graduates from MSc Project in International Transport and Logistic during their visit. And with the companion of Prof. Jin Yongxing, the delegation had a visit to the Maritime Simulation Center, COSCO Library and so on and they also joined in the graduation ceremony of the 10th MSc Project in International Transport and Logistics.
