First Meeting of Working Group on the Revision of IMO Maritime English Model Course Held in Shanghai

The Working Group on the Revision of IMO Maritime English Model Course 3.17 held its first meeting in Shanghai during 24-25 April. The meeting was co-hosted by IMLA and Shanghai Maritime Unviersity.
Mr.Clive Cole, Hon. Secretary of IMLA and Associate Professor of WMU, Ms. Catherine Logie, Manager of Marlins, Mr. Alexander Hickethier, Vice President of the San Diego Maritime College, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of IMLA and Vice President of SMU, together with over 10 participants from SMU and China Shipping Group attended the meeting.
In February 2014, the proposal document of "Validation of Model Training Course - Proposal of the revision of the Maritime English 3.17" (HTW 1-3-7) was submitted by IMLA to the IMO HTW1. It was appreciated by the IMO HTW Subcommittee and as a result, IMLA accepted the task to fully revise the Model Course. The revised draft is expected to be submitted to the Subcommittee this October.
The Working Group intends to meet again for the Second Meeting in London this May.
