IMarEST Conducted Accreditation on Marine Engineering Program of SMU

 

From June 16 to June 19, Mr. Albert Rose, Honorable Vice President of Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology（IMarEST）, and another 2 experts visited SMU. They conducted an on-spot accreditation on Bachelor and Master Degree of Marine Engineering, SMU.

 

Prof. Yang Wanfeng, Vice President of SMU, thanked the expert group for their accreditation. He said that Marine Engineering, as one of the most special majors of SMU, had being concentrating on program construction and cultivation of senior marine engineering talents. He expressed his hope for further accelerating the development of internationalization of Marine Engineering program of SMU through this accreditation.

 

The expert group conducted a comprehensive assessment to the operating condition and talent training system of Marine Engineering program of SMU through material auditing, meetings with heads, teachers and students of the program, investigation on teaching facilities and laboratory equipment, etc.

 

In the wrap-up meeting, the expert group thought highly of the talent training system and program-running level of Marine Engineering program. After investigation, the expert group submitted a report to headquarter for reviewing, which would give an official feedback in 6 weeks.

 

IMarEST is an international academic organization authorized to make standards for marine engineering, marine science and technology education. It is recognized by the Royal and can grant chartered scientists, chartered marine scientists and chartered engineer within its scope of authority. Accreditation from IMarEST marks the internationalization of talent training system of Marine Engineering program. If this accreditation is achieved, application for the chartered engineer of Marine Engineering will be accessible to Marine Engineering graduates of SMU.
