IMLA 20 Successfully Held at MIWB

From July 1st to 5th, the 20th IMLA conference was successfully hosted by Maritime Institute Willem Barents( MIWB), in Terschelling of the Netherlands. With the conference theme “Back to the Basics”, over 80 maritime lecturers, professors and representatives of the industry from more than 30 countries participated in this conference and exchange their latest academic achievements.

On the Opening, Prof. Capt. Stephen Cross, the Chair of Local Organizing Committee made a warm welcome address to all participants. Prof. Dr. Jin Yongxing, the Chair of IMLA, in his opening speech, specially pointed out that IMLA 20 was a grand historical event for this Association, and wished all the participants freely present their recent achievement, share results of research projects, and exchange views and experience in MET.

During the 5-day conference, Prof. Dr. Jin Yongxing presided over the Committee Meeting and IMLA Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Committee had an open discussion on various issues relating to the future developments of the Association. On the AGM, Prof. Dr. Jin Yongxing made a report on reflections of IMLA in the past year and also thoughts on the future, in which he put a specific emphasis on enhancing IMO representative activities. Following the report of Chair, there were reports from three special interest Conferences – INSLEC, IMEC, ICERS, and a report from the Treasurer.

In June of 1980, the first IMLA conference was held in Amsterdam to formally inaugurate this Association. This time, members were back in this country again for the 20th major conferences after 35 years. To celebrate the anniversary of 20th conference, Capt. Alain Brillault, the Vice Chair of IMLA, made a special presentation on the history of IMLA during a plenary session of this conference.

On the afternoon of 5th July, the curtain fell on the IMLA20 with a complete success.
