IMLA-IAMU Working Group Met at WMU

Following the first meeting two months ago in Shanghai, IMLA and IAMU met again for their joint project on the revision of IMO Model Course1.30, 3.12, 6.09, at WMU on May 21st and 22nd, 2016.

IMLA representatives Wang Xian and Xie Jieying from Shanghai Maritime University, Yutaka EMI, IAMU Deputy Executive Director, and Michael Ekou Manuel, Head of WMU MET Specialization, attended the workshop.

The meeting made successful discussions revolving around the revision progress, proof-reading and content consistence after the last meeting, and reached agreement on competence-based training and education, on board assessment, objective assessment and the suitability of new education and training methodologies. Working schedule prior to the submission date June 15th, 2016 was hammered out as well.

WMU President Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry met the members of the working group and expressed her appreciation for the multi-national coordination mechanism for the IMO project. She expected the team to continue its meticulous effort to finalize the revision work while addressing appropriately and timely the feedback from IMO.

IMLA and IAMU are assigned for the revision of three IMO Model Courses at the IMO HTW 2nd Session in February 2015, which are Model Course 6.09: Training Course for Instructors, Model Course 1.30:On-Board Assessment, and Model Course 3.12: Assessment, Examination and Certification of Seafarers.
