IMLA-ICERS13 Concluded in Odessa

 
The 13th International Conference on Engine Room Simulators (ICERS13) took place at National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” under the aegis of the International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) on 20-21st September, 2017. More than 80 delegates representing maritime training institutions, training centres, manufacturers of marine simulators and software as well as other representatives of the marine industry from 11 countries of the world took part in the Conference and Exhibition ICERS13.
 
 
The theme of the ICERS 13 is: “Improving the simulator training of marine engineers and marine electrical engineers.”
 
The following topics were discussed during the conference: Education and Training with ERS, New Methods and Technologies, Energy Efficiency Training with ERS, Soft Skills in ERS, Assessment and Evaluation in ERS, STCW 2010 and ERS, Troubleshooting Analysis, Special Topics in Simulators.
 
 
At the end of the Conference, certificates were awarded to the lecturers.Mr. Takeshi Nakazawa, Chairman of Steering Committee of the International Conference on Engine Room Simulators presented a commemorative award to M.V. Miyusov, the Rector of NU «ОМА» for holding ICERS13.
 
 
The conference program saw the exhibition of engine room simulator manufacturers: KONGSBERG, TRANSAS, UNITEST, RHEINMETALL.
 
During the conference, the ICERS Steering Committee met for discussion of the following: Trends and Technologies used in Engine Room simulation; Ship Autonomus Systems and the future of Maritime Simulation; Virtual Engine Room; Possible inclusion of workshops and the discussion to be incorporated in such workshops; Possible keynote speakers; Sponsorship, possible new sponsors; Improvement and updating of our marketing strategies including Contacts and Participants Database; Creation of Database of Articles on IMLA-ICERS Website.
 
 
International Conference on Engine Room Simulators (ICERS) aims to support the activities of the International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) by providing an interactive forum for the international maritime engine room simulator community. ICERS seeks to achieve this aim by promoting international contact and co-operation between engine room simulator operators, researchers, commercial simulator manufacturers and courseware developers, software publishers, relevant government administrations, international and national maritime organizations, marine engineers and shipping companies. At the heart of ICERS are the academic staff and trainers world-wide who seek to support the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention), and to further develop the competencies and professionalism of marine engineers, through the use of simulator technology.
 
Previous conferences took place in Nantes, France (1993); Rimouski, Canada (1995); Svendborg, Denmark (1997); Vallejo, USA (1999); Singapore (2001); Wuhan, China (2004); Portorož, Slovenia (2005), Manilla, Philippines (2007); Kings Point, USA (2009); Saint-Petersburg, Russia (2011); Busan, South Korea (2013); and Tuzla, Turkey (2015).
