IMLA at IMO SDC5

At the 5th session of the  Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction was held at IMO headquarters in London, UK from Monday 22 January to Friday 26 January 2018, IMLA was represented by Prof. Yan Zhang and Ms Haiyan Yu from Shanghai Maritime University. Here below provides a brief agenda items summarized from the meeting. 
Agenda of the 5th Session of the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction.
After the formal opening of the session by the IMO Secretary General, Mr Kitack Lim, and Chair of the SDC sub-committee the following agenda has been adopted:
  1. Adoption of the agenda
  2. Decision of other IMO bodies
  3. Amendments to SOLAS regulation II-1/8-1 on the availability of passenger ships’ electrical power supply in cases of flooding from side raking damage
  4. Computerized stability support for the master in case of flooding for existing passenger ships
  5. Review SOLAS chapter II-1, parts B-2 and B-4, to ensure consistency with parts B and B-1 with regard to watertight integrity
  6. Finalization of second generation intact stability criteria
  7. Mandatory instrument and/or provisions addressing safety standards for the carriage of more than 12 industrial personnel on board vessels engaged on international vogages
  8. Amendments to the 2011 ESP Code
  9. Unified interpretation of provisions of IMO safety, security, and environment related Conventions
  10. Revised SOLAS regulation II-1/3-8 and associated guidlines (MSC.1/Circ.1175) and new guidelines for safe mooring operations for all ships
  11. Guidelines for wing-in-ground craft
  12. Biennial agenda and provisional agenda for SDC 6
  13. Election of Chair and Vice-Chair for 2019; Reports of the working and drafting group
  14. Any other business
  15. Report to the Maritime Safety Committee

During the session, the Chair amended the sequence of the agenda items to suit the presenters and member states representatives.

Most of the agenda items related to ships design and construction that might be of the importance for the IMLA member universities and the Secretariat.

The 5th session of the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction formally concludes its work on Friday 26 January 2018 at 1400 hours.
