IMLA25-IMEC30-ICERS14 was Held in Manila

Hosted by the Maritime Academy of Asia and Pacific (MAAP), the joint Conference of 25th International Maritime Lecturers Association Conference (IMLA 25), 30th International Maritime English Conference (IMEC30) and 14th International Conference of Engine Room Simulators (ICERS14) was held with great success from 22 to 25 October, 2018, in Manila, Philippines.

With the theme of "The New Wave of Excellence in Maritime Education and Training", the four-day conference addressed hot topics related to maritime education, communication onboard and introduction of new technologies of marine engine room, through plenary, parallel and workshop sessions. The Conference attracted more than 120 maritime lecturers, shipping operators and administrative officers from all over the world.

IMLA’s Honorary Chair, Prof. Jin Yongxing delivered an opening speech on behalf of the Association. He also shared a message from IMO Secretary General Mr. Kitack Lim who has expressed high praise to IMLA’s contribution to the man power of the shipping industry and conveyed his sincere congratulations to the 25th IMLA Conference.

Mr. VADM EDUARDO MA R SANTOS AFP (Ret.), President of MAAP and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, gave a warm welcome to all the participants.  Administrator of MARINA Mr. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, also attended and spoke to welcome participants on behalf of the government of Philippines.

The IMLA Committee meeting and Annual General Meeting were called during the joint conferences. Prof. Jin Yongxing gave a comprehensive report on IMLA’s work in the past two years.

At the Closing on the final day, Chairman of IMLA Prof. Jin Yongxing gave a comprehensive review of the first ever joint conference for IMLA. Chairman of ICERS Professor Takeshi Nakazawa, Chairman of IMEC Professor Clive Cole, concluded respectively for the two Special Interest Groups. It was also decided that the next IMLA Conference will be hosted by the Batumi State Maritime Academy in September 2019.

Jointly organized by the Japanese Seafarers Group, a photo exhibit with the theme of “HOLAS for SOLAS” was presented at the Conference venue. Photographs were all collected from maritime institutions of all different parts of the world, to raise awareness from the general public the mental health and wellbeing of seafarers at sea.
