IMO Regional Training Course for Maritime English Instructors in Shanghai

The Regional Training Course for Maritime English Instructors, implemented under IMO Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (ITCP), was held in Shanghai from 30 October to 3 November 2017.
 
The objective of this Consultancy is to update the skills and competence of maritime English instructors and enhance the capacity of the maritime training institutions in the participating countries from the Asian region to effectively implement the requirements of the 1978 STCW Convention, as amended.
 
Mr. Milhar Fuazudeen, Head of IMO Maritime Training and Human Element Section, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of IMLA and SMU University Council, Mr. Chang Fuzhi, Deputy-general of Maritime Safety Administration Shanghai presented the opening ceremony and welcomed the participants.
 
This regional training course was conducted by Mr. Clive Cole, IMLA Honorary Secretary, and Ms Anne Anne Pazaver from World Maritime University, using the revised IMO model course 3.17 on Maritime English, IMO Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP) and the standard training material developed by the Organization.
 
Over 30 Maritime English instructors from South Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Myanmar, North Korea and China participated the course, shared and exchanged knowledge, experience and observation with peers from the region.
 
The regional training course was hosted jointly by IMLA-International Maritime Lecturers Association and Shanghai Maritime University.
