MoU Renewed with UNESCO-IOC

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO-IOC) on 31 March during the Maritime Women: Global Leadership International Conference. 

The first Agreement with UNESCO-IOC was established in 1993 to support education and capacity building for the benefit of all Member States of the Organizations.The renewal is a five-year Agreement in which the parties will cooperate within their respective mandates, particularly concerning oceans related education and research. Possibilities within the Agreement include the exchange of staff members on a short term basis to enhance learning, as well as cooperation in research, conferences, and seminars to assist with achieving each party’s overarching educational and research goals.

The Agreement was signed by Dr. Wendy M. Watson-Wright, Executive Secretary and Assistant Director-General of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, and Dr. Björn Kjerfve, President of the World Maritime University.
