Meet Real Life "Rosies" at Cal Maritime

Five of California's original "Rosie the Riveters" are coming to Cal Maritime on Thursday, March 9. The program – part of the Academy's celebration of Women's History Month and International Women's Day – will include a meet and greet, presentation, Q & A, and reception.

"Rosie the Riveter" was the term and cultural icon used to represent women who worked in shipyards during World War II.

Marian Sousa, Agnes Moore, Kay Morrison, Priscilla Elder and Marian Wynn will be featured at the March 9 program from 6-8 p.m. in Rizza Auditorium on the Cal Maritime campus, 200 Maritime Academy Dr. in Vallejo.

"We consider ourselves very fortunate to have the opportunity to welcome these women to our campus," said Vineeta Dhillon, director of student engagement and academic success at Cal Maritime. "Their stories have been an inspiration to women in all industries."

The celebration continues on March 10-11 with Cal Maritime's sixth annual conference focused on supporting the success of women in maritime, transportation, and related industries. This year's presenters include Vice Admiral Jody A. Breckenridge, commander of Coast Guard Pacific Area and Tiana Sanchez, author and corporate trainer. The conference will also feature presentations on maritime cybersecurity and autonomous vessels.

Women in Maritime Leadership is open to anyone interested in attending and will feature programming for current and future students, recent graduates, and mid-career professionals. The conference offers career development opportunities, networking, and leadership training for women and those who support them in the industry.
